International Islamic Matrimony Sites and Second-Marriage Sites: Introduction and Cautions
IMB Editorial Team · 5 October 2026 · about 4 min read
Expatriate Bangladeshis and many people considering a second marriage lean towards international matrimony sites. Here is a fair introduction to four well-known names with cautions. For Bangladesh-focused sites see Best Islamic matrimony sites in Bangladesh.
Disclosure: This article is published by Ideal Marriage Bureau (IMB) and we are listed in it ourselves, so bias is possible and we do not hide it. Information about other sites is taken from their own public pages (checked 4 October 2026); we have not independently verified their claims. Before giving any site personal details, photos or money, verify for yourself. If you spot an error, tell us and we will correct it.
General international Islamic matrimony
- Pure Matrimony: launched in 2010; describes itself as the "world's largest" platform helping practising Muslims marry. The site says it is "Shariah-compliant" and offers optional wali involvement; it has apps.
- Sunnah Match: launched in 2017; for practising Muslims. By the site a wali can get full access to chats; it speaks of modesty and haya-centred communication. Pricing is on a separate page.
Both are convenient in English-speaking settings. Fit with the Bangla language, Bangladeshi family customs and legal process must be checked separately.
Second/multiple-marriage-specific sites
- Nikah.life (NikahPlus): the address nikah.life redirects to nikahplus.com, a Russian-language Muslim matrimony site — not a Bangladeshi site. By its own statement it manually checks profiles, photos and messages, has a wali feature and says it supports divorced Muslims and widows. It does not suit Bangla speakers or Bangladesh's legal process.
- SecondWife.com: the best-known polygyny-specific Muslim matchmaking service; it claims around 400,000 members. The site itself tells users to keep local legal status in mind.
- Polygamy.com: a site for articles, news and community content on polygamy; known to be associated with SecondWife.com's founder.
Caution: why not rely on a site alone
The framework of these sites is built mainly in a Western context. Even where "Islamic" or "Shariah-compliant" is written:
- Using a site does not mean the marriage meets all Shariah conditions (ability to be just, wali, mahr, a public ceremony).
- In Bangladesh the Arbitration Council's written permission and Nikahnama registration do not happen automatically through a site (The law of plural marriage in Bangladesh).
- In some countries (such as the UK) polygyny has no legal recognition — understand the legal risk before deciding.
- Proceeding secretly or without a guardian raises the risk of fraud and violation of rights (A secret second marriage).
More important for women: see whether the man's marital status, legal permission, mahr, housing and maintenance are clear in writing in the proposal (10 questions if you want to become a second wife).
Seven questions before choosing any Islamic matrimony site
- Verification: does anyone verify profiles, or can anyone enter whatever they like?
- Wali / guardian: is there a way to involve the woman's guardian?
- Privacy: who can see a woman's photo and details? Is there a lock or restriction?
- Cost: what is the fee, for what, and what is the refund rule? No unknown "success fees"?
- Type of marriage: is there a clear policy on second/multiple marriage? Does it mention the Arbitration Council permission and Nikahnama registration in Bangladesh? (Conditions and rules of a second marriage)
- Private contact: does it encourage direct chat or exchanging personal numbers? Long private contact without a guardian is risky in the Shariah's view.
- Red flags for fraud: requests for money, photos or pressure to hurry — stop (Rules of verification before marriage).
A Bangladesh-focused alternative
IMB is Bangladesh-based; it supports first through fourth marriage as a structured path following justice and legal steps, with ulama supervision, in-person verification and wali involvement. There is a separate process for expatriate applicants too — contact us.
If viewing biodata online is not enough for you — if you want to meet in person at an office and proceed with family verification — apply to Ideal Marriage Bureau. See how it works or contact us. Application and verification are always free for women.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are international sites suitable for Bangladeshis?
Abroad some international sites can be useful, but language, culture and fit with Bangladesh's legal process are not always there. Involve the family in the decision.
Is SecondWife.com Shariah-compliant?
It is a polygyny-specific matchmaking service that works on the premise that plural marriage is lawful. But using a site does not mean the marriage meets all Shariah and legal conditions — the ability to be just, guardian involvement, mahr, legal permission and so on must be confirmed separately. Take a mufti's advice.
What is the legal step for a second marriage in Bangladesh?
While an existing marriage subsists, marrying again without the written permission of the Arbitration Council is punishable and cannot be registered (Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961, Section 6). Details at the link below.
